Bokakhat: Following the death of a man named Binod Mazhi in a wild elephant attack in Gidibosti, under Morangi of Golaghat district, the local residents staged a strong protest at Porabangla. The protest was supported by the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU).
The villagers expressed deep resentment against the Forest Department and demanded protection from wild elephants. Residents have been facing severe problems due to ongoing elephant menace in the area. Just a few days ago, another person was killed in a similar attack near the nearby Daigroong Tea Estate.
However, locals alleged that the negligent Forest Department has failed to take any concrete steps despite repeated incidents. The public has demanded adequate compensation for the deceased. In this regard, ATASU has also submitted a memorandum to the administration.
