GORESWAR: Retired Headmaster, artiste, and social worker Durgeswar Das (61 years) of Dunaratal Janajati Primary (Simlibari) School, under the Goreswar Primary Education Block, passed away on Wednesday night at his residence in Sutar Gaon, Kamrup district.
According to sources, he had been suffering from a liver ailment for the past few months and had been under medical advice, continuing his treatment at home.
In addition to earning a reputation as an accomplished teacher in the area, he was also known for his distinctive identity as an artiste. From the very inception of the Madhya Patidarang Janakalyan Sangha, he was actively associated with it, inspiring the local youth to work for the welfare of society and playing a leading role in building a healthy and strong community. He was also a lifelong member of the Axam Xahitya Xabha.
As news of Das’s demise spread, many admirers gathered on Thursday morning to pay their final respects, offering floral tributes to his mortal remains. The Goreswar Primary Teachers’ Association, Madhya Patidarang Janakalyan Sangha, Madhya Patidarang Bohagi Festival Celebration Committee, Sutar Gaon Barowari Durga Puja Celebration Committee, and Patidarang Swarna Xakha Xahitya Xabha expressed deep sorrow at his passing and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Das is survived by his wife, one son, and two daughters.
