Assam Asset launches CSR initiative to make Nazira waste-free

SIVASAGAR/GAURISAGAR: Reiterating its commitment towards a Swachh Bharat as envisaged by Prime Minister India, ONGC Assam Asset initiated a CSR project to make historic Nazira town waste-free.

The project was launched on Monday by CGM-Head HR/ER, Assam Asset, Sanjay Goel, on the banks of river Dikhow, Nazira in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-SDO(C)I/c, Nazira subdivision, Rajib Thapa, CGM-Head Maintenance, Gopal Rao, GM-I/C HR/ER, S Muralidharan, DGM-I/C CSR, Assam Asset, Amandeep Singh and other senior officers from the district administration, ONGC, Municipal Corporation Nazira and Simaluguri and senior citizens of Nazira and Simaluguri.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, CGM-Head HR/ER Sanjay Goel highlighted that ONGC, Assam Asset, as a responsible corporate citizen, had been taking up a number of proactive CSR projects for the development of the society. He emphasized that Dikhow River being the lifeline of Nazira Town, needed to be taken care of on a sustained basis. He appealed to all the stakeholders to shoulder the shared responsibility towards a clean and green environment.

Under the CSR initiative, the waste from the bank of the historic Dikhow River at Nazira, which was earlier used as dumping yard by Nazira and Simaluguri Municipal Board, will be transferred and disposed at the newly designated dumping ground of Nazira and Simaluguri Municipal Board, identified at Masterchook village, using modern equipment. The project is being implemented in association with Accelerate Assam Initiative, Guwahati - a registered NGO.

Besides, ONGC will also install solar street lights near the newly-identified dumping ground and will extend financial assistance to Nazira subdivisional administration for the construction of approach road to the dumping ground.
