
JORHAT: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested Assistant Engineer Siba Prasad Saikia of the Central Jorhat Development Block due to allegations of taking a bribe. A complaint was filed saying that Saikia demanded a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from a local resident to clear MGNREGA bills.
Not willing to pay the bribe, the complainant made an application to the DVAC for lodging the complaint and taking appropriate action against the public servant. Agreed upon this, the Directorate organized a trap on February 5, 2025, at the office of the Block Development Officer in Chipahikhola, Jorhat. In the operation, Saikia was caught red handed after he accepted the bribery amount from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
Based on the collected evidence, the DVAC team arrested Saikia. A formal case under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018), has been filed at ACB Police Station and registered as ACB P.S. Case No. 12/2025.
The Directorate is pursuing legal proceedings against the case maintaining its commitment to the cause of combating corruption in public service. Further updates are to be followed as the investigation progresses.
