BONGAIGAON: Assam's Bongaigaon district authorities seized a huge consignment of foreign liquor from the Jogighopa area. The seizure is led by the Bongaigaon District Commissioner Navadeep Pathak. The raid, conducted in collaboration with Jogighopa Police and the Excise Department, busted the consignment.
Late on Thursday night, officials targeted a site in Kachudola village, and they confiscated 168 cartons of foreign liquor. The Excise Department has reasons to suspect the liquor was being stored and transported using hijacked trucks, a clear indication that the trade in question is wide-ranging.
During the raid, police caught Mohan Das, who is suspected to be a mastermind in the smuggling activity. However, two other culprits have managed to evade capture and are currently absconding. The liquor seized by the police amounts to more than Rs. 10 lakh in the market.
The raid is part of an intensified effort to curb illegal liquor trade in the region, especially during the festive season. A comprehensive investigation has been launched to apprehend the absconding suspects and uncover the full extent of the smuggling network.
The authorities have also said that they will dismantle similar operations and ensure strict enforcement of excise laws to prevent further illegal activities in the district.
