DHUBRI: “Majboot Rishta, Majboot Samaj” (Strong Relationship, Strong Society) - a programme to create awareness in view of increasing divorce cases these days, was recently organized by a local socio-cultural group, Nrityangan here at Dhubri Lions Club premises.
Objective of the event was to bridge the gap between the younger and older generations and to discuss and find solutions to the increasing instances of divorce in the society.
Fifty couples who has completed fifty years of married life and an equal number of newly married couples were invited to the programme.
Programme began with the lighting of the lamp by the president of Nrityangan, Dr. Pratima Neogi and she explained the purpose of programme.
Izaz Ahmed and Sayanta Das both from Dhubri District Legal Cell Counciling attended the programme spoke at a length on increasing divorce cases.
“It is matter of deep concern that on a very trivial matter, divorces are being filed by couples without considering values of married life and consequently a married life ends miserably,” Ahmed said.
Both Ahmed and Das lauded the efforts of Nrityangan to raise this issue and working on it by creating awareness to save happy married and conjugal life. To make the programme enjoyable, song and other cultural programmes were also organised and participated by local artistes.
Talking to The Sentinel, Co-ordinator of the programme, Dipankar Majumdar said that this was the second year that the organisation staged this programme in view of increasing cases of divorce in the society.
“We are in fact want to send a clear message that marriages are made in heaven and one should not rush to the court to seek divorce on the trivial matter. Couples should consider all the pros and cons and refrain from seeking divorce. We will continue to create awareness on it till some tangible solution is found,” Majumdar.
