GUWAHATI: Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita announced on Wednesday that the party is fully prepared for the upcoming panchayat elections in the state.
Kalita revealed that two committees have been formed to spearhead the preparations: the election manifesto committee, led by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Das, and the election management committee, headed by former MP Pallab Lochan Das.
The Assam BJP intends to contest independently at the state level. The Assam State Election Commission has recently released the Draft Electoral Rolls following fresh delimitation of panchayat constituencies in 27 districts, excluding Sixth Schedule and municipal areas.
The electoral rolls list 17,554,589 voters, including 8,829,927 men, 8,724,274 women, and 388 individuals listed under the "other" category, with 23,781 polling stations designated for the elections. Voters will elect representatives for 397 Zilla Parishad constituencies, 181 Anchalik Panchayats, 2,193 Gaon Panchayats, and 21,930 wards.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during the conclusion of a 12-day development campaign in Dibrugarh on December 23, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the all-round development of the state’s residents, emphasizing efforts to improve living standards and empower citizens.
The Assam State Election Commission had published the Draft Panchayat Electoral Roll for 2024-25 on November 13, 2024. Citizens can now search for their names and download the electoral roll via the OERMS portal at https://ermssec.assam.gov.in. This initiative allows voters to verify their details and ensure they are included in the upcoming panchayat elections.
Election Registration Officers (EROs), primarily the Block Development Officers (BDOs), will process these claims and objections from December 22 to December 26, 2024. The final Panchayat Electoral Roll will be published on December 28, 2024.
