KHERONI: In a significant political shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed more than 1,000 new members from rival parties during a mass joining programme held under the 9th Number Amreng MAC constituency in West Karbi Anglong. The event saw 700 families from the Indian National Congress (INC), 200 from the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), and 103 from the Autonomous State District Committee (ASDC) officially joining the BJP.
Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Dr Tuliram Ronghang warmly welcomed the new members, stating, “We look forward to working together to create a future filled with opportunity and prosperity.” The programme was attended by prominent leaders, including MP Amarsing Tisso, MLA Rupsing Teron (Baithalangso), KAAC Deputy Chairman Avijit Kro, Executive Member Rina Terangpi, several Executive Members, MACs, KAAC Board chairmen, BJP West Karbi Anglong District President Radip Ronghang, Secretary Sagorika Bora, vice-presidents Dhonsing Dera and Bhudheswar Rongpi, and other senior BJP workers. Among the prominent leaders joining the BJP were Chandrasing Phangchopi, a founder leader of ASDC, Sarthe Ronghi, President of Amreng Congress Mandal Committee, along with the entire committee, and Parbinash Phongcho from APHLC.
In a significant announcement, MP Amarsing Tisso declared Taseng as a Model Village, while CEM Dr Tuliram Ronghang pledged to provide 50 ring wells, an open stage, free land pattas to indigenous people, and quality drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to uplift the local community. The mass joining has strengthened the BJP’s grassroots base in Amreng constituency, signalling growing support for the party in the region.
