The girls reportedly went for a bath at the bank of Burhi Dihing River after their school hours and later drown to death. The team of SDRF conducted a search operation and recovered the dead bodies.

GUWAHATI: In a heartbreaking incident in Assam's Duliajan, two minor girls drowned in a stream in Burhi Dihing River in Assam's Duliajan area.

The incident took place on Friday 11 March on the bank of Burhi Dihing River in the Duliajan district of Assam.

The two minor girls have been identified as Anita Das and Sushmita Das, both students of Tiping Ghat Higher Secondary School in Duliajan.

It is reported that on Saturday morning the bodies of the two girls were recovered after the duo went missing a day ago on Friday.

According to sources, the two minor girls after their school hours when to the bank of the Burhi Dihing River for a bath where they met with the tragic incident.

As the family members were unable to find the girls, they lodged a complaint in a local police station which sent officials to search for the girls.

The families of the 2 girls informed that the girls on Friday went to school at 00:09 am but didn't return home so they went to look out for the girls.

On asking the school authorities, they got to know that the girls didn't attend classes on that particular day. They were with no information waiting till midnight, therefore, reported the incident to police.

As per reports, the team of SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) along with the police officials initiated a search operation. They reached the spot of the river where the two girls went to take bath.

The SDRF team conducted a search operation to find the bodies of the girl and after an hour-long search, they were able to recover the dead bodies of the 2 minor girls.

Meanwhile, the Duliajan police have sent the dead bodies of the girls for postmortem reports.

The police had started an inquiry over the matter to find out the cause of death which is not yet known and it is suspected if there is some foul play.
