Assam: ‘Bohagi Boron’ to 7 eminent senior citizens of Bokakhat

To celebrate Rongali Bihu and Assamese culture, Sadou Asom Kobita Sanmilan's central programme ‘Bohagi Boron’ was held today in Bokakhat.

BOKAKHAT: Aligning with the Assamese people’s beloved festival Rongali Bihu and to honour their cultural roots, the central programme ‘Bohagi Boron’ of Sadou Asom Kobita Sanmilan was held today in Bokakhat, organized by the Bokakhat Subdivision Kobita Sanmilan. Under the initiative of the Golaghat District Kobita Sanmilan and in collaboration with Bokakhat Subdivision Kobita Sanmilan, ‘Bohagi Boron’ was dedicated to seven distinguished senior individuals in 2025.

As a part of the programme, the organizers visited the homes of these senior contributors to Assamese society, culture, and literature, offering Bihu greetings and tokens of respect. The first ‘Bohagi Boron’ of 2025 was presented on April 17 to Dr Ruby Bora, noted essayist, dramatist, short story writer, retired professor of Assamese at JDSG College, and a life member of Sadou Asom Kobita Sanmilan.

On the second day of the event, the honourees included Kaushalya Dutta, eminent poet-writer and member of the Bokakhat branch, Anuradha Bordoloi, Executive President of Bokakhat Sandhani Lekhika Samaroh Samiti and Advisor of the Kobita Sanmilan branch, Dr Vibha Bora, recipient of the recently announced ‘Veerangana Sati Sadhani Award,’ renowned researcher of the Chutia community, and retired principal of JDSG College, Pradeep Khaound, distinguished social worker and poetry enthusiast, Sakshiram Mahato, eminent poet-writer and life member of Sadou Asom Kobita Sanmilan, and Bhabananda Kalita, senior journalist and President of Golaghat District Press Club.

Each of them received a Phulam Gamosa woven by Assamese weavers and a traditional Bohagi Boron felicitation letter bearing the signatures of the central leadership of Sadou Asom Kobita Sanmilan, the district and subdivision presidents and secretaries.

The programme was coordinated by Ajanta Talukdar, Secretary of the Bokakhat Subdivision Kobita Sanmilan. Present in the team were Amar Sharma, President of Golaghat District Kobita Sanmilan and founding President of Bokakhat branch, Nijora Barthakur, President of Bokakhat branch, Kalpana Chetia, Advisor and former president of Bokakhat Puwoti Sahitya Sabha, Chandraprabha Saikia Deka, Joint Editor of Bokakhat Sandhani Lekhika Samaroh Samiti and Advisor of the branch, Minati Dale, Vice-President and Executive Member of Sadou Asom Kobita Sanmilan, Monalisa Popi Saikia, Organizational Secretary, and Kunjalata Das, member and distinguished poet.

Family members and well-wishers of the honourees were also present at their homes during the Bohagi Boron visit. Upon successful completion of the programme, branch President Nijora Barthakur extended heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all involved.
