GUWAHATI: The Assam Book Fair will take place for the first time at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, from December 27 to January 7. Organized by the Publication Board Assam and the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association, the event will showcase a diverse range of publishers and booksellers from across India and neighboring countries.

The venue for this year’s Assam Book Fair has been moved from the traditional location at the Assam Engineering Institute playground due to ongoing construction work on the GNB flyover. Last year’s fair featured over 100 stalls, including 15 exhibitors from Bangladesh.

However, due to ongoing bilateral issues between India and Bangladesh, Bangladeshi publishers will not participate in this year's event, as confirmed by Pramod Kalita, Secretary of the Publication Board of Assam.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Digboi National Book Fair, which was organized by the voluntary group Prayas, completed its fifth day at the Muliabari Playground on Thursday, December 5, 2024. The fair took place from December 1 to 8 and had witnessed many participants attending the event, with the day's highlights being motivational talks and a vibrant cultural program.

The event began with a warm welcome by Dr. Sanjita Chetia, Professor at Digboi Women's College and Vice-President Dr Jovial Kalita. Dr Chetia gave the welcome speech in the event conducted by Prayas Editor Manoranjan Das. Journalist Utpal Borah inspired students by stressing the importance of respecting parents and teachers, placing them as guiding figures in their journey of life.

Likewise, the Golaghat Book Fair and Literature Festival took place at Golaghat Samannakhetra from November 27. The book fair had been organized by Vox Populi, a leading organization of Golaghat.

The Golaghat Book Fair and Literature Festival 2024 was inaugurated by former vice chancellor of Sati Sadhani State University of Golaghat Dr. Jyotiprasad Saikia.
