CHIRANG: The Bodoland People's Front (BPF) faces a major political jolt as former BTC Deputy Chief Executive Member and senior leader Khampa Borgoyari prepares to join the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on February 8.
Borgoyari, who recently resigned from the BPF, will make the switch in a public ceremony at Thaikajhora playground in Chirang district, alongside BTR Chief Executive Member and UPPL President Pramod Boro.
Adding to the blow for the BPF, Borgoyari will be joined by around 500 supporters, including presidents and secretaries of 11 primary committees from the Chirang Duar BTC constituency. His departure, along with other key resignations, signals a weakening grip for the BPF in the region.
Speaking at a press conference on February 7, Borgoyari cited discontent with the BPF’s leadership, accusing the party of lacking direction and resisting progressive change. He stated that his decision was made without external pressure, emphasizing that the UPPL’s democratic and developmental approach aligns with his vision for the region.
This development follows the exits of other senior BPF figures, including former MLA and Baksa district president Hitesh Basumatary and central secretary Pranjit Basumatary. Their collective departure is expected to further erode the BPF’s influence in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
With the UPPL gaining momentum ahead of future political contests, the February 8 event is set to be a defining moment in the region’s shifting political landscape.
