Assam: Brisk Preparations Underway for Panchayat Election in Biswanath

Along with the rest of the state, the Biswanath administration has also geared up for the ensuing Panchayat election.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Along with the rest of the state, the Biswanath administration has also geared up for the ensuing Panchayat election. The first phase, of the training programme for the Presiding and Polling officers in connection with the upcoming election, was completed successfully. 558 Presiding officers and 2232 First, Second and Third Polling officers each, including 60 women in each category were trained. The Observer for Panchayat election 2025 for Biswanath ZPC 1 and 2 and Sakomatha ZPC 1 and 2, Anuja Bhuyan, Joint Secretary, School Education Department, Government of Assam and Munindra Nath Ngatey, District Commissioner, Biswanath, attended the training held at Biswanath College. In this training, 22 Master Trainers participated. During this programme, Rakesh Deka, Additional District Commissioner, was also present. Bhuyan has also visited a few polling stations under Biswanath ZPC 1 and 2, Sakomatha ZPC 1 and 2.

The State Election Commission has appointed three General Observers for Biswanath district to conduct the upcoming Panchayat elections freely, transparently and smoothly.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,373 candidates remained in the fray for the upcoming Panchayat elections. Of these, 28 are candidates for Zila Parishad seats, 112 for Anchalik Panchayat member seats, and 1233 for Gaon Panchayat member seats. According to information, a total of 31 candidates filed their nominations for the 12 Zilla Parishad constituencies in Biswanath district but two candidates withdrew their nominations. There remained 28 candidates contesting for the 12 Zilla Parishad constituencies in the district while the candidate from the Buroi Zila Parishad constituency was elected unopposed.
