KOKRAJHAR: The communique of Chief of BTC Pramod Boro, former Chief Hagrama Mohilary, and former Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyari, and many Bodo leaders of different organizations and members of the Bhutan-India Friendship Association (BIFA) expressed their profound grief over the tragic death of Dasho Tsering Wangda, former Bhutan Consul General in India and Joint Home Secretary of the Royal Government of Bhutan, who breathed his last early this morning.
The Bodo leaders expressed their profound grief over his tragic and untimely demise. They said Wangda was a genius, a true friend of India who played a key role in strengthening mutual relationships and good understanding between India and Bhutan. They also said his demise has created a sense of vacuum for upholding peace and understanding of border people on both sides.
Talking to The Sentinel, the General Secretary of BIFA, Dawa Penjor, said Wangda was in his private farm when a wild elephant attacked him last night. He said injured Wangda was immediately taken to CRRH, Gelephu, but later succumbed to his injuries at 2:28 am. Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic death, Penjor said Bhutan had lost a great intellect and humanist. He also said former Joint Home Secretary Dasho Tsering Wangda was a notable figure in Bhutan who served the country in various capacities, and he was a true friend of India who took a key role in strengthening the Bhutan-India relationship over the decades.
It may be mentioned that Wangda was responsible for overseeing various aspects of home affairs, including law and order, border management, and disaster management. He was appointed as the Consul General of Bhutan in India (Kolkata) in 2008. He played a crucial role in promoting bilateral relations between Bhutan and India, particularly in the areas of trade, commerce, and tourism. Besides, he has also been involved in other ventures, including music, and has uploaded music tracks on SoundCloud, showcasing his creative side. He was always smiling with compassion.
Wangda recently invited a group of media persons of Kokrajhar and discussed promoting relationships among the border people of the two sides by holding sports, culture, and literary meets so that there would be people-to-people contact to strengthen the relationship between the two neighbours.
