TANGLA: BTC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro said that peace, progress, and prosperity have been restored in the BTR that has been witnessing rapid transformation in every sphere and marching forward in an inclusive manner.
Boro said this at the fourth anniversary of the UPPL-led UPPL-BJP alliance government in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). A central event was held in a grand and colourful manner in Bhergaon of the Udalguri district on this occasion on Sunday.
Boro acknowledged the contributions of civic society groups, national and international societies, trusts, and foundations that have worked in a holistic manner in infusing and bringing inclusive development and change to BTR. He stated that the Bodoland Territorial Council, though being an autonomous body under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, has taken efforts to make its mechanism in sync with a state. Lambasting the previous government of the council, which had left huge debts during its 17-year rule, he asserted that it lacked mission and vision, and he stated that the present regime has not borrowed any funds and has been coordinating with CSR of various agencies and NGOs and foundations that have been working round the clock in every sector to bring in transformation in healthcare, education, science, art, literature, and other allied sectors. He also spoke on flagship schemes of state and central government from Arunodoi to Jal Jeevan Mission, which have been implemented in the region.
Referring to the rehabilitation of former NDFB cadres, he asserted that 600 of the former members of the outfit will be rehabilitated by January 27 next, and all remaining martyr families will also receive ex gratia compensation. In question to the withdrawal of pending cases of NDFB cadres, he asserted that the BTC government, in consultation with the Assam government, has written to the NIA and MHA for consideration of the withdrawal of cases, including heinous offences that have low chances of conviction.
Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, addressing the session, said, “The previous four years have witnessed tremendous growth and progress in literature, sports, and education spheres in the BTR, which have been acknowledged by stakeholders across the state and country.”
He also exhorted citizens and stakeholders to identify the root problems and put forward their ideas and suggestions to resolve them and asserted that the council government must invite suggestions and adopt them for the welfare and development of every community residing in the region. The event also witnessed the distribution of 241 land pattas to landless citizens, an ex gratia grant of Rs 20,000 each to seven prominent sports persons, a grant of Rs 1 lakh to each of 100 citizens under the Progressive Fish Farmers Scheme, and the Nileswar Brahma Cultural Award to Gunbati Basumatary.
