KOKRAJHAR: The Information and Public Relations Department of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) organized a groundbreaking awareness campaign on “The Impacts of Social Media and Cyber Security Threats for Students” at Kokrajhar Girls’ H.S. School on Wednesday. The pioneering initiative by the IPR Department of BTC aims to educate students and the younger generation about the responsible use of social media and the potential risks associated with cybercrime.

Inaugurating the campaign, BTC EM for Information and Public Relations Dr. Nilut Swargiary urged the students to use mobile phones and the internet wisely, acknowledging their advantages and pitfalls. He underlined the importance of guiding the younger generation towards the right path through such awareness campaigns. “This initiative reflects the BTR Government’s commitment to providing students with opportunities and the right direction under the dynamic leadership of CEM Pramod Boro,” he stated. “The BTR Government is dedicated to building a strong human resource base, as persistent effort is the key to eliminating poverty and achieving progress,” he added. He further said that the campaign would be conducted across all five districts of the BTR within this month.

EM Dr. Swargiary also praised the remarkable achievements of students, particularly the girls who secured top positions in the recently declared CCE results. He encouraged the students to persevere with determination, emphasizing that clarity of goals, hard work, and resilience are essential to overcoming challenges and attaining success.

In his address, Joint Secretary Ractim Buragohain encouraged the students to practice conscious control over their thoughts and reactions, enabling them to make informed decisions in both the digital realm and their personal lives.

The programme featured valuable insights from several experts, including Prof. Pranab Kumar Singh of CIT, Kokrajhar, and DSP Madhu Kakoti in cyber safety and social media usage. They provided valuable insights on the importance of maintaining a secure digital presence and the critical need for students to stay vigilant online. The programme was conducted by the adviser of SEED, BTR Ranjan K. Baruah.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Zahid Ahmed Tapadar, RO-cum-CHD of IPRD, emphasised the importance of integrating the lessons from the campaign into daily life to foster responsible digital behaviour.

It is to be noted that this is the first time in Assam that a government department has taken such a step for the students, making it a unique and path-breaking effort. Neither any other sixth scheduled council nor the state government has introduced such a comprehensive programme aimed at equipping students with the skills to safely navigate the digital world.
