KOKRAJHAR: The Government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is making extensive preparations to successfully host the 12th Baokhungri Festival, scheduled to commence on April 12 at Baokhungri Hill near Kokrajhar.
To review the arrangements and finalize the event schedule, a preparatory meeting was held on Thursday at Harinaguri High School near Baokhungri Hills. The meeting, chaired by BTC Executive Member (EM) for Tourism Dr Dharma Narayan Das, focused on ensuring meticulous planning, effective publicity, security measures, traffic management, and necessary precautions for the convenience of guests and participants.
Participating in the meeting, BTC Joint Secretary for Tourism Phami Brahma, Chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board Pratibha Brahma, senior officers of district and police administration, forest, tourism, sports, PWD, and local villagers shared valuable insights and suggestions based on past experiences to enhance this year’s festival.
Speaking at the meeting, EM Dr Dharma Narayan Das described Baokhungri Hills as ‘a hidden jewel of India, offering unparalleled natural beauty, cultural richness, and a deep connection to history and mythology.’ He invited everyone to experience the Baokhungri Festival, where nature, heritage, and spirituality converge in a mesmerizing celebration from April 12 to 14.
As normal programmes, there will be competitions on Hill Trekking, indigenous games- Khomlainai, Gila, Dongfang Bukhunai and Daobo Athing, culture, ethnic food courts, paragliding, cycling, etc. The Baokhungri Festival is connected with the history of Daokha Raja and his daughter Diplai who sacrificed her life on the hilltop of Baokhungri. Besides, the Baokhungri and Dangdufur hills hold high significance in Bodo culture and heritage and over one lakh people take part in the traditional hill trekking on Baokhungri hilltop every year on the last day of Chaitra, last day of the Assamese year.
