KHERONI: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has announced a significant change in its business regulatory framework following the 17th Executive Committee meeting held recently in Diphu. The committee adopted Resolution No. 10, mandating the replacement of the Business Registration Certificate (BRC) with a trade license across Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts.
Effective immediately, the trade license will serve as the sole legal document required for conducting business within the jurisdiction of KAAC. This applies to both tribal and non-tribal residents of the two hills districts. The decision aims to streamline business operations and enhance regulatory compliance.
Under the new system, Town Committees and Municipal Boards will no longer issue Business Registration Certificate (BRCs). Instead, they will provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) as a supporting document for Trade License applications submitted to the KAAC authority. Additionally, all BRCs issued for the fiscal year 2025-26 will be converted into NOCs, following the official format (Annexure A) provided by the Taxation Department. These NOCs must be submitted immediately to the Superintendent of Taxes under the KAAC Taxation Department.
The KAAC’s move is expected to simplify the licensing process and ensure a unified system for business operations in the region.
