GUWAHATI: In a significant development, a 2% DA hike for state government employees and pensioners has been approved by the Assam Cabinet. The cabinet's approval for the 2% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. CM Sarma informed that the DA hike will come into retrospective effect from January 1, 2025.
The Assam CM said that the state government had earlier raised the dearness allowance of its employees and pensioners by 3% in October of last year, which came into retrospective effect from July 2024.
The dearness allowance of state government employees and pensioners will increase from 53% to 55% following today's hike, equivalent to what their central government counterparts are being paid.
Following the approval of a 2% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners by the Union Cabinet, state government employees and pensioners will also get a hike in DA.
A hike in salaries of employees resulted due to the increase in DA of central government employees and pensioners from the existing 53% to 55% following a revision.
Additionally, the Assam Cabinet has approved several significant decisions, including a financial allocation of Rs. 190 crore for purchasing medicines in government hospitals.
