Assam Cabinet Approves Setting Up Of National Forensic Sciences University

Guwahati: The Assam cabinet on Monday gave its approval for the setting up of a National Forensic Sciences University in the capital city of Guwahati.

While speaking to media persons, senior Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said that the university will function from the Gauhati medical college and hospital (GMCH) campus for the time being.

''The Assam government has been looking for a suitable location to set up the university,'' he added.

The university will be built with an aim of creating skilled manpower in Forensic Science and strengthening the forensic capabilities of Assam.

The Cabinet Minister went on to say that the university will boost the security mechanism of the state's home department and will make it more robust.

It is to be noted that there are currently two other campuses of the university in the country, one in Delhi and the other in Gujarat.

Meanwhile, an action plan for climate change in the state for the period of 2020-2030 has also been approved by the cabinet and it has also extended benefits for the economically weaker sections in Assam.

Earlier in May, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched several projects, one of them being the National Forensic Sciences University, during his two-day visit to Assam.
