SILCHAR: The healthcare infrastructure of Cachar district received a significant boost with the formal inauguration of the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) today. The state-of-the-art facility, located on the premises of the Joint Director of Health’s bungalow at Trunk Road, Silchar, was inaugurated by Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav.

Speaking at the event, DC Yadav hailed the DEIC as a milestone for the district’s healthcare, particularly for children aged 0-18. He emphasized that the centre will play a crucial role in providing primary treatment and early identification of illnesses, with provisions for referral to higher medical facilities when necessary. This initiative is expected to ease the burden on the District Hospital (SM Dev Civil Hospital) and Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Notably, the DEIC is an extended version of the district hospital and aims to cater to children under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK). On the inaugural day, free medical check-ups and treatment were provided to 249 children, identified under the RBSK program. The children, hailing from four health blocks of the district Lala (49), Sonai (48), Bikrampur (43), and Jalalpur (109), also received free medicines. A team of specialists ensured comprehensive medical care during the health camp.
