Assam: Cachar SSP Numal Mahatta gets MHA medal for Meritorious Service

SILCHAR: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Cachar, Numal Mahatta, has been conferred with the Medal for Meritorious Service by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the eve of the nation’s 79th Independence Day

Reacting to the honour, SSP Mahatta expressed heartfelt gratitude, calling the recognition ‘a collective achievement of my team in Cachar police.’ He added, “Day and night, our officers and personnel work under challenging conditions, be it for crime prevention, disaster response, or community safety. Their dedication is my greatest strength. I dedicate it to every officer who stands guard for the people of Cachar.”

The MHA’s announcement also brought accolades for two distinguished officers from the 6th Assam Police Battalion (APBn), Kathal, Assistant Commandant Nabin Ch Sharma, and ABSI Rabindra Singha.

Assistant Commandant Sharma, who joined the force in 1988, and assumed his current post in 2024, has earned a reputation for sincerity, dependability, and excellence in law-and-order duties, particularly in supervising Border Outpost Platoons in remote inter-state border areas. Over his career, he has been honoured with 98 rewards and commendations, including the prestigious ‘Swatantrata ki Swarna Jayanti Padak’ by the President of India in 2002, reflecting a lifetime of selfless dedication.

ABSI Rabindra Singha, who began his service in 1991, and was promoted to Sub-Inspector in 2024, has been recognized for his meticulous work as a Reserve Officer, deep knowledge of administrative procedures, and tireless commitment to duty. His efficiency and disciplined service have earned him 73 monetary rewards and three commendations from various authorities.
