KOKRAJHAR: People in Kokrajhar district are carrying out massive protests under the banner "No Road, No Vote" for the construction of a very essential road that had been lying idle for years. The core of their protest lies in the fact that a road from Nayapara Nachanguri to Chamarpara must be constructed that has long been with the community.

The locals sent a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Pramod Boro through Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner, calling him to act to improve the dismal road condition now. If that is not considered, then boycott of elections can be done to the next set.

The poor state of the roads is creating significant obstacles for the community, particularly because more than 500 school children and patients heavily depend on ambulances to reach hospitals for treatment. The state of the road becomes worse in the monsoon season, thereby making daily commutes almost impossible.

In the appeal, the residents have urged the local leaders including BTR Chief Pramod Boro and MLA Lawrence Islary to focus on the construction of the road and thereby end the hardship they face. The protest signifies the urgent need for infrastructure improvement in the region as the residents want their voice to be heard at a time when they are continuously neglected.
