SIVASAGAR: Marking its first anniversary, socio-cultural organization Drishyapat Sivasagar, in association with Hindu Dharma Sabha Namghar, organized a drama evening in memory of noted social worker Late Achyut Bhattacharjya. The highlight of the event was the successful staging of the Assamese play ‘Chanakyar Xapat,’ written by acclaimed playwright Dr Moni Pathak. The performance was held at the auditorium of the Hindu Dharma Sabha Namghar in Amolapatty on May 7.

The evening commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony led by Ananga Mohan Sharma, Chief Advisor of Drishyapat Sivasagar, followed by the formal inauguration of the event by Jintu Chetia, Programme Executive of All India Radio, Dibrugarh. Earlier in the day, the organization’s President Dr Moni Pathak hoisted the flag, and tributes were offered to departed artistes, national martyrs, brave soldiers, and environmental contributors. The event was hosted by Geetanjali Hazarika.

‘Chanakyar Xapat’ is the result of years of research by Dr Moni Pathak, who explored narratives surrounding the legendary figure Chanakya across various Indian languages before composing the work in Assamese. Actor Partha Pratim Sharma delivered a compelling performance in the lead role, earning widespread acclaim. Notable performances also came from Bandana Saikia and Tribeni Kakoti, while Trinayan Borthakur’s portrayal of Chandragupta significantly enriched the production. Rituraj Changkakoti as Puru Raj, Anurag Sharma as Dhanananda and Anjan Kumar Baruah as Aryadhan were also lauded for their strong performances.

The play, co-directed by Dr Moni Pathak and Rupam Bezbaurah, featured music by Ritumon Dutta, lighting design by Biswajyoti Borthakur, and stage management by Abhinab Dev Kashyap. The ensemble cast included Shyamal Rajguru, Karuna Gogoi, Debajit Dutta, Poran Porashar Gogoi, Smriti Sharma, Roudragni P Bharadwaj, among others.
