Assam CM Assures Swift Action and Relief After ONGC Gas Leak in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: In a significant move, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday assured immediate government intervention and support during his visit to the families affected by the recent gas leak incident at ONGC’s Rudrasagar oilfield in Sivasagar district. The gas leak, which followed a blast at Well No. RDS-147A, has sparked significant concern over public safety and environmental hazards.

During his visit, CM Sarma interacted with residents and assessed conditions at the temporary relief camps established for displaced families. He emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating, “I have instructed ONGC officials to take immediate steps to resolve the issue. Time is of the essence.”

CM Sarma further announced that he has scheduled a crucial discussion with Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, and the Chairman of ONGC. “We will push to expedite technical solutions and bring in foreign experts if necessary,” he added.

To ensure on-ground support, CM Sarma confirmed that ministers from the Assam government will remain stationed in Sivasagar to oversee the situation and ensure proper delivery of relief measures to those affected.

“This issue has our highest priority. We stand firmly with the people of Sivasagar and will do everything possible to restore normalcy and safeguard their well-being,” CM Sarma assured. The state government has pledged to provide regular updates as the situation develops.
