
GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the closing ceremony of the 1st Under-23 National Basketball Championship (Men-Women) at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati. Hosted by the Assam Basketball Association under the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), the championship highlighted the Government of Assam's commitment to promoting basketball.
The event saw participation from 55 teams across 30 states, with over 1,000 participants and over 800 players. This championship has boosted Assam’s sporting landscape, showcasing the state's dedication to sporting excellence. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extends heartfelt congratulations to all participants.
Earlier, Assam’s men’s basketball team got off to a winning start in the U-23 National Basketball Championship at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium. The host defeated Goa by 78-61 in their opening match.
However, the Assam women’s team faced a setback in their opening game, losing to Rajasthan by 66-49. Despite a strong performance in the early stages, Assam couldn’t maintain the momentum.
Alongside, Assam’s women’s team was defeated by Haryana (69-75) as well in the U-23 National Basketball Championship at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium.
The Assam men’s team also suffered a loss, going down to Andhra Pradesh with a score of 57-90, despite a winning strike against Goa. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra secured their spots in the women’s quarterfinals.
