
GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a modern 17.5-meter footbridge at GS Road, Paltan Bazar on Wednesday, aimed at enhancing pedestrian convenience.
"To ease pedestrian movement in the crucial Paltan Bazar Junction in Guwahati, I dedicated a Foot Overbridge on New Year’s Day," CM Sarma wrote on X.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 17 crore, the footbridge links the busy Paltan Bazar Market with the Guwahati Railway Station. The new facility features a variety of advanced elements aimed at improving inclusivity and convenience for pedestrians.
The new footbridge includes several advanced features to improve accessibility and safety, such as a lift for persons with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity for all users. An escalator has been provided for the convenience of women and senior citizens, ensuring easy access.
Additionally, an advanced drainage system has been integrated to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season. Lastly, a dedicated safety room is available on the bridge to offer emergency assistance and ensure pedestrian security. This new footbridge is expected to greatly enhance traffic flow on GS Road and provide pedestrians with a safe and convenient route through the bustling Paltan Bazar area.
He even stated, “To ensure ease of travel to and from the capital city, I am dedicating a Mini ISBT in Khanapara.” The chief minister announced that an additional 56 electric buses will be incorporated into the existing fleet to fulfill the vision of a pollution-free public transport system.
