JORHAT: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a newly built Convention Centre at Chinnamara, Jorhat, constructed at an expense of Rs. 19.98 crore on Wednesday. The centre, spread over 3,118 square meters, has been built to cater to a capacity of 120 guests and comes with state-of-the-art amenities such as an executive lounge, a media conference hall and suite cabins.

The Convention Centre will act as a useful space to host important events by the district administration, besides community events, and help increase the regional space for public outreach and administrative activities. The inclusion of this facility is a continuation of efforts by the government to enhance infrastructure and deliver improved services to the people of Jorhat.

Chief Minister Sarma was also a participant in a symbolic gesture during the inauguration ceremony by planting a sapling of the Neem tree on campus, a symbol of environmental responsibility as well as building infrastructure.

The building of the Convention Centre is likely to bring closer cooperation between the government and the citizens and provide for an exchange of views and interaction on a wide range of issues. The project falls into the larger framework of developing public infrastructure and promoting community welfare in Assam.
