GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the state has recorded a budget utilization of 86% for the current financial year of 2024-25, up from 80% of the last fiscal. In an X post, CM Sarma underscored the commitment of the state towards fiscal responsibility and efficient utilization of resources.
The total expenditure for the financial year 2024-25 was approximately Rs 1,44,617 crore, which is more than Rs. 1,36,317 crore in 2023-24. This marks a significant increase from approximately Rs 80,000 crore in 2020-21, when the rate of usage of expenditure was only 65%.
The Assam CM also mentioned about a nearly 18% rise in capital spending, which increased to Rs. 25,354 crore in FY 2024-25 from Rs 21,509 crore during the last year. This reflects the government's emphasis on infrastructure creation and long-term growth strategies. Assam has also started the new fiscal year 2025-26 with a cash balance of Rs 3,035 crore, providing a stable financial base for proposed investments.
Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, on March 10, laid out a Rs 2.63 lakh crore budget for 2025-26, with cash benefits to youth and tea garden workers, and tax relief to salaried employees. The Rs 620.27 crore deficit budget does not call for any new taxes but seeks to give relief to almost 1.5 lakh salaried employees.
