GOALPARA: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Museum of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council at Udaypur, Dudhnoi in Goalpara district on Friday. This museum has been established at an expense of Rs. 1.80 crore and focuses on preserving and promoting the cultural richness of the Rabha community-including their traditional arts, artefacts, costumes, and customs.

In addition to the museum, an e-library was also inaugurated that will digitally open up the door to hundreds of books available all over the world. As the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) announced in a statement on X, it is likely that these new facilities will bring great socio-economic and cultural growth for the Rabha community.

CM Sarma, during the event, paid his tributes to King Veer Parshuram, a Rabha ruler known for his resistance against the Mughal Empire. "There are many brave sons in the history of Assam who saved the motherland from invaders. King Veer Parshuram of the Rabha community faced the Mughal Empire with his limited army and immense bravery," the Chief Minister remarked in a post on X.

He said the government has also made efforts to pay homage to the Rabha king's legacy by erecting a memorial in his name.

The Rabha's are a Tibeto-Burman, indigenous community residing mainly in Assam, Meghalaya, and West Bengal. Their native regions are in Lower Assam, Dooars, and parts of Garo Hills in Meghalaya.

In a separate event, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated three new train services from Guwahati railway station yesterday: Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train, and Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express. These new train services seek to improve connectivity in the north-eastern region.
