SONAPUR: In a significant move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a stern warning to those involved in encroachment on lands under tribal belts and blocks at Kosutoli, Sonapur, near Guwahati. CM Sarma, who was on a spot inspection for the establishment of the 10 Assam Police Battalion headquarters, instructed encroachers to vacate the site immediately.

Speaking to two men living in the area, CM Sarma emphasised that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the unlawful occupation of tribal land.

During the interaction, when the two men claimed they had lived in Kosutoli for years and that their father had purchased the land, the Chief Minister assured them that their claims would be verified.

Asking them to leave the place immediately, CM Sarma said, "Nobody is allowed to occupy this land, alright? If you claim to have been born here, I will check your birth certificates, but you must not wander around this area. Stay where you are for now, and I will see what can be done. But do not roam here, or the police might take you into custody."

Chief Minister Sarma further questioned the residents about the middlemen who had brought them to the area, stating that he would inform the Deputy Commissioner (DC) to take appropriate steps.
