TOKYO: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Komura Masahiro, Japan’s State Minister of Justice, for a productive discussion aimed at strengthening the relationship between India and Japan.
During the meeting, they talked about the shared values between the two countries, especially how the teachings of Buddha connect their cultures. CM Sarma also shared Assam’s plan to create an industrial park for Japanese companies, hoping to boost economic ties.
They further discussed how Assam’s skilled young people could help meet Japan’s demand for workers through existing programs that link both countries. The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen the partnership between Assam and Japan in various sectors.
During his visit, the Assam CM presented a three-point mantra of simplicity, transparency, and efficiency to attract Japanese investors during his visit to Tokyo.
He met over 160 prominent businessmen, including executives from Hitachi, Renesas Electronics, and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), along with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Koga Yuichiro San.
At the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, the Chief Minister emphasized Assam’s commitment to supporting new industries with customized incentives. He highlighted Japan’s involvement in Assam’s development, such as the Phulbari river bridge project, and urged deeper engagement in sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, and semiconductors.
CM Sarma also discussed opportunities with Renesas for Assam’s semiconductor plant and explored partnerships with Hitachi in renewable energy. He met Toyo Engineering’s CEO to promote Assam’s hydrocarbon and energy sectors. The Chief Minister also engaged with the Assamese diaspora, strengthening ties for mutual development.
