GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to visit Morigaon district on Thursday, January 18, 2025, to review the progress of the semiconductor manufacturing plant under development in the region. This facility is a vital part of Assam’s expanding technological infrastructure and is anticipated to create significant employment opportunities while boosting the state’s overall economic growth.

CM Sarma posted on X that, “I will shortly reach Morigaon to chair the first outstation #AssamCabinet meeting of 2025. We will also review the progress of the Tata Semiconductor facility.” His visit marks a significant step in overseeing the advancement of a project poised to drive Assam’s industrial growth.

The semiconductor plant in Morigaon is a cornerstone of Assam’s efforts to establish itself as a hub for advanced manufacturing. CM Sarma highlighted the state’s dedication to promoting technological innovation and credited the Central government’s support for accelerating development in the Northeastern region.

Additionally, the Union Railway Minister’s recent introduction of three new trains which aims to enhance regional connectivity, further boosting Assam’s economic momentum. These initiatives align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning India as a global leader in technology by 2047.

CM Sarma also stressed the importance of building a skilled workforce to drive India’s technological transformation. The semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, which is advancing swiftly, is expected to commence production by the end of 2025. This project is a vital component of India’s efforts to adopt cutting-edge technologies and prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

He stressed the need to equip young people with skills in emerging fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum physics. He also recognized that many of Assam’s youth are already making notable contributions to IT industries in states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, underscoring the importance of further skill development to meet both national and global demands.

Sarma reaffirmed that Assam’s progress aligns closely with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. He also noted the recent inauguration of the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), which has been upgraded to a deemed university. NIELIT will be pivotal in developing talent for semiconductors, quantum physics, and AI.

Sarma emphasized that India is ready to provide a skilled workforce for both domestic and global markets, especially in semiconductors and AI. Assam’s infrastructure development and strategic projects, such as the Tata Semiconductor Facility, symbolize its transition into a technology-driven economy.

Assam seeks to lead high-tech industries through international collaborations and advancements. The Jagiroad semiconductor plant, along with other upcoming projects, will play a crucial role in realizing this vision and placing the state at the forefront of India’s technological progress.
