PALASBARI: Assam is undergoing a major transformation in public education, with more than 500 high and higher secondary schools being upgraded at Rs 7 to 10 crore each.
Furthering this vision, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of Palasbari Aanchalik High School into a National Model School of Excellence under the PM SHRI scheme at Agchia. Meanwhile, as part of the educational overhaul, CM Sarma revealed plans to set up modern, state-of-the-art schools in every assembly constituency across Assam, with some constituencies set to receive multiple such institutions earlier in January. These schools will be equipped with advanced facilities to enhance the overall quality of education in the state. On the pension front, the Chief Minister confirmed the rollback of the New Pension Scheme (NPS), with the government set to implement the Central Unified Pension Scheme starting in April. Under the new scheme, employees with 25 years of service will be entitled to 50 percent of their last drawn salary, along with Dearness Allowance, as a pension after retirement. Employees recruited before 2005, who were not part of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), will now be transitioned to OPS.
