Laying the foundation stone for the first point having an electrical signal system at Capital Travels point, Chakrabarty said that altogether 13 such traffic control points would be set up at various parts of the city within two months. The integrated traffic system would include CCTV cameras to monitor breach of traffic laws by any vehicle, Chakrabarty added. He said that the Guardian Minister of the Cachar district Jayanta Malla Baruah, as well as former Town Development Minister Ashok Singhal, responded positively when he approached them for the integrated traffic system in Silchar which had already been upgraded as a corporation. Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav and SP Numol Mahatta were present in the foundation stone laying programme.
It is to be noted that despite being the second largest city in Assam after Guwahati, Silchar did not have any proper or modern traffic signal system.
