
GUWAHATI: During a function to commemorate the 93rd Jayanti of eminent litterateur late Homen Borgohain at Gauhati University on December 7, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented literary pensions to three litterateurs and literary awards to 28 litterateurs.
CM Sarma extended his best wishes to the recipients of Literary Pension and Awards for the year 2024 while paying tribute to Borgohain on his birth anniversary for his role in enriching Assamese literature.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, the awardees under literary awards will receive a one-time financial grant of Rs 50,000, while the litterateurs under literary pensions will receive a monthly pension of Rs 8000.
CM Sarma said, "In a true tribute to the late Homen Borgohain, who enriched Assamese literature, on his birth anniversary, the state government has decided to confer a literary pension and literary awards."
Altogether 31 litterateurs have been selected for the Literary Pension and Literary Awards for the year 2024. Three of them received the Literary Pension, while the others received the Literary Awards.
The CMO's statement mentioned Shila Mohanta of Cachar, Dilip Kumar Phukan of Sonitpur, and Khagendra Nath Bora of Lakhimpur as recipients of the Literary Pension.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Nani Gopal Mahanta, Adviser Education Department Prof. Debabrata Das, the son of Late Home Borgohain, Pradipta Borgohain, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
