GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was relieved following the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a prime accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. CM Sarma revealed his own experience on that fateful night, claiming he had decided to stay at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel but had altered his plans at the last minute.
Sarma was in Mumbai on November 26, 2008, and had planned to stay at the Taj. But because of some unexpected events, he decided to stay at another hotel, just managing to escape the mayhem that followed. "The terror of that night has remained with me for all time," he said, describing the ghastly scenes he saw, including the NSG's action against the attacks.
He underlined the fact that the memory of the night is still fresh, with a belief persisting that justice would ultimately prevail for the planners of the attack.
The Assam CM characterized Rana’s extradition as a pivotal moment in the quest for justice and a reinforcement of national security. “Sixteen years later, seeing Tahawwur Rana back on Indian soil brings not just a sense of closure, but also renewed confidence,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister emphasized that with good leadership, those who conspire against India will think twice about their actions. The Mumbai attacks of 2008 remain a grim reminder of the threat of terrorism, and Rana's return is viewed as an important step towards bringing the culprits to justice.
