SILCHAR: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass welcomed BJP national president JP Nadda at Silchar Aiport on January 11.

The national leader is on a two-day tour in Assam will address a public meeting in Silchar and is said to attend number of other party programmes.

Taking to his Twitter handle, CM Sonowal wrote, "Adaraniya @JPNadda ji, we promise that under PM @narendramodi ji's leadership and your presidentship, each and every karyakarta will put their best to further strengthen the nationalist power in Assam & the entire NE."

Meanwhile, state finance minister wrote, "Honoured to welcome @BJP4India National President Sri @JPNadda at Silchar Airport.

Thousands of @BJP4Assam karyakartas and people of #Assam eagerly await his margdarshan for the next Assembly elections.

On January 10, BJP national president JP Nadda, who was in West Bengal voiced out against chief minister Mamata Banerjee alleging that she has lost her credibility because in Bengal "corruption has been institutionalized, the administration has been politicized and politics has been criminalized."

The national leader at a press conference also said that the Centre was determined to implement the new citizenship law in the country but did not set any timeframe.

"The Citizenship (Amendment) Act will be implemented in letter and spirit. We are committed. We are framing the rules," the party leader added.

It is to be mentioned that, earlier in December 2020, stones were thrown at Nadda's convoy by alleged TMC workers at Sirakol in Diamond Harbour area in West Bengal when he went there to address a rally.

Allegedly, several BJP leaders including its Bengal minder Kailash Vijayvargiya suffered injuries.

Eight persons were arrested from various parts of South 24 Parganas district for their alleged involvement in the attack on BJP national president JP Nadda's convoy at Diamond Harbour.

With this, the total number of people apprehended in connection with the attack on the BJP leader has increased to 15, a senior police official news agency.
