NEW DELHI: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met on Tuesday to discuss enhancing rail connectivity in the state.

In a thorough discussion, the Chief Minister urged the Union Minister to give Assam top priority in future railway expansion plans by highlighting the economic possibilities that improved connectivity may generate for the state.

Besides discussing railways, CM Sarma extended an invitation to Vaishnaw to attend the Advantage Assam Summit 2025, which aims to promote investment and development in the region.

Later, CM Sarma shared the details of the meeting on social media, stating that, "It is always an enriching experience to meet Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji.

During our meeting in New Delhi today, I extended an invitation to him to attend the #AdvantageAssam Summit in 2025.

We also had a comprehensive discussion to enhance rail connectivity in Assam. I have made a specific request to the Railway Minister to add more trains on networks connecting Assam to major growth centers of the country.

The discussions are expected to lead to future steps in enhancing Assam's rail network, which could provide a boost to trade, tourism, and economic development in the state.
