Cong seeks alliance with BPF ahead of Assam Assembly polls next year

Guwahati: Ripun Bora, the President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has urged the Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF) to join hands with Congress as an alliance in the assembly polls of 2021. With the Assembly polls getting closer each day, all the parties in the state are looking to form alliances to enhance their chances of forming the government next year.

He also said that they are in talks with the newly formed parties – Raijor Dal and Asom Jatiya Parishad to join their alliance. The Congress president further said that no MLA from Congress will join BJP.

It is only on Tuesday that Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) Election dates were announced. The BTC elections will be conducted from December 7 to 10. The two-phase polls will see elections in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD): Baksa, Udalguri, Chirang and Kokrajhar.

The date for counting of votes for both the phases is December 12.

BJP is ready to contest in all the 12 seats of BTC elections. They are determined to win all of them. On the other hand, Hagrama Mohillary of BPF too has been confident about winning the BTC polls. Hangrama's BPF is, however, the largest political party in BTAD. In the 2016 polls, BJP and BPF formed the alliance. However, this year BJP is contesting the BTC election by itself. Congress is eagerly waiting for Hangrama to join their alliance, which will be a big hit for them next year if BPF wins the elections this year.
