GOLAGHAT: Don Bosco College, Golaghat celebrated Constitution Day to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution on Tuesday. The event was a significant occasion aimed at fostering awareness and appreciation of constitutional values among students and faculty members.
The programme commenced with Limka Bongrunpi as the host, creating an engaging atmosphere for the attendees. It began with an introductory speech by Tingdan Wangsu, a BA 3rd Semester student from the Department of Political Science. He provided an insightful overview of the evolution of the Indian Constitution, setting the tone for the day’s discussions.
The principal of the college, Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, addressed the audience. He welcomed the resource person and the chief guest, motivating students and faculty to embrace their fundamental duties as citizens and to unite as brothers and sisters in upholding the values enshrined in the Constitution. Following Dr. Amaladoss’s address, a pledge on the Preamble of the Constitution was taken by all faculty members and students, reinforcing their commitment to constitutional principles. The programme included the oath taking of the Fundamental Duties administered by John Paul Kandulna, a B.A. 1st Semester student from the Department of Political Science. This segment served to remind participants of their responsibilities as citizens.
The resource person for the event, Prof. (Fr) George Thadathil, SDB, General Coordinator of IUS (Don Bosco Higher Education, Rome), was felicitated by Dr.Piyali Dutta, Assistant Professor in Political Science. In his speech, Prof. Thadathil emphasized the importance of constitutional values and shared inspiring anecdotes from the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in drafting the Constitution.
Dr. Fr. Jose Palely SDB, Vice-Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University and former principal of Don Bosco College Golaghat, also graced the occasion with his presence. He encouraged students to imbibe constitutional values and fulfill their duties as responsible citizens in building a prosperous India.
To add a patriotic flair to the celebration, students from B.A. 3rd Semester performed a stirring patriotic song led by Wangli Lowang and his team. Additionally, a vibrant dance performance by Ansila Dung Dung and her team captivated the audience, showcasing their artistic talents while celebrating national pride.
DOOMDOOMA: Under the aegis of Senior Citizens’ Association (SCA), Doomdooma, the 75 the Constitution Day was observed at Doomdooma Natya Mandir. The meeting was presided over by president, SCA, Doomdooma Gobinda Phookan while the secretary Prakash Narayan Patowari moderated the proceedings of the meeting.
Taking part in the event as appointed speaker Biren Hazarika, former vice-principal, Doomdooma College, spoke elaborately on the making of the Constitution under leadership of Constitution maker B R Ambedkar and its adoption on November 26, 1949. He highlighted on the aspect of social justice as guaranteed in our Constitution in the form Preamble to secure Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity and enshrined in the Fundamental Rights in the Part III of the Constitution. As ours is an ‘Union of States’, so no State or Union territory can secede from India, he said. However, on exacting Civil Rights Hazarika expressed unhappiness at the lack of consciousness of the common people on the matter.
The meeting was also addressed by Dr Abdul Quadir, Arjun Baruah, Mrigen Saikia, Ananta Khataniar and Bina Gogoi. The meeting came to an end after president Gobinda Phookan passed his president’s remarks and thanked everybody for extending their co-operation and wholehearted support to make the event held for the first time at Doomdooma a grand success.
