Assam: Couple Arrested for Physically Assaulting Domestic Help

GUWAHATI: Golaghat police detained a couple for allegedly assaulting a minor domestic help for the last four months.

The incident was reported at Moranhat Police Station on July 28.

The apprehended couple has been identified as Nirupam Das and Pinky Saikia.

According to police reports, the victim identified as Junali Muda had filed a complaint at the Moranhat Police Station on July 28.

Notably, the minor was working as a domestic servant in the accused residence for the last one year, however, the victim claimed that she was undergoing physical and psychological assault for the last four months.

Based on the input, the Golaghat Police launched search operations at Chandan Nagar and arrested the duo who had been absconding after the complaint was lodged against them.

One of the accused, Pinky Saikia has denied all allegations and termed the incident as a conspiracy.

Nirupam Das is an official of the Sonari Tea Board and Pinky Saikia is an employee of the Demow Sericulture department.

The duo has been handed over to the Moranhat Police for further investigation.

Earlier, Jorhat police detained a couple for allegedly assaulting a minor domestic help for the last two months.

The incident was reported at the L.K.Path area in Jorhat town.

The detainee identified as Madhurjya Mohan Bora and his wife Bhagyashree was staying at a residence in Jorhat's LK Path area as tenants.

According to reports, the minor girl unable to bear the harassment by the couple managed to come out of the house on Saturday night. She was spotted crying by the locals and accordingly, they informed the matter to the Lichubari police station in Jorhat.
