GORESWAR: Although Goreswar is the only municipality in Tamulpur district, it continues to face numerous unresolved issues affecting the daily lives of its residents. The people of Goreswar have been living in hardship for many years due to persistent problems that remain unaddressed. The CPI(M) Anchalik Committees have brought these issues to the forefront and submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the Goreswar Municipal Board on Thursday.
The CPI(M) Anchalik Committees, namely the Goreswar Anchalik Committee and the Pub-Goreswar Anchalik Committee, demanded the immediate clearance of Sonaijan Dong and Paglijan, construction of a toilet at the bus stand, proper construction of drainage systems for the town, repair of dilapidated roads in all wards under Goreswar municipality, and improvement of the Goreswar weekly and daily markets.
A memorandum listing these demands was handed over to the Municipal Board Chairman by both committees. Several hundred men and women carrying party flags and festoons took out a massive procession from the CPI(M) office in Goreswar to the municipal office, staging a protest demonstration.
The protest was addressed by Buddhi Deka, secretary of the Pub-Goreswar Anchalik Committee. Protesters demanded immediate action on their grievances. CPI(M) State Committee Member Prabin Das, along with other district and anchalik leaders, also participated in the programme.
The protestors warned the chairman that they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not met promptly.
