TINSUKIA: A crude oil pipeline has burst in the Borpothar area of Makum, Tinsukia, leading to fears of a potential environmental disaster. The damaged pipeline, which connects the Barbari Exploration and Production (EP) site to the Hapjan Oilfields via the Betjan area, is experiencing a continuous leak of crude oil.

Following the incident, staff from the oil company and firefighting teams have been dispatched to the site to deal with the situation. The teams are working round the clock to limit the leak and avoid further spillage, which would have significant ecological consequences.

The blowout has raised concerns among residents and activists as well, with some comparing it to the 2020 Baghjan oil field blowout that resulted in widespread environmental devastation and disturbance to local communities. The potential impact on the surrounding ecosystem and safety of residents is also something of concern.

In another incident, Duliajan residents were gripped with fear following a huge oil spill from an Oil India Limited pipeline near the Solakotoki region, which has seriously polluted the area around the residence of Rupeshwar Gogoi.
