MANGALDAI: Seizing the opportunity to turn mass transport challenges into a powerful platform, the District Transport Office, Darrang, launched a compelling series of road safety awareness campaigns under the inspiring slogan, “Every Vote Counts, Every Life Matters.”
On the final phase of the Panchayat polls, as polling teams concluded their duties, dedicated officials and staff of the District Transport Department displayed eye-catching hoardings across all three assembly segments of the district.
The initiative focused on the unsung heroes of the day—the drivers and crew of commercial passenger vehicles responsible for safely transporting polling and security personnel. The campaign introduced the Pancha Tantra—five golden rules of road safety: avoiding high-speed driving, abstaining from alcohol while driving, steering clear of mobile phone distractions, always wearing ISI-marked helmets (for two-wheeler riders) and seat belts (for four-wheeler passengers), and preventing overloading of passengers or goods. Vibrant leaflets emphasizing these principles were distributed to reinforce the message.
Leading the campaign were District Transport Officer Leeyen Hazarika, Enforcement Inspector Om Prakash Upadhyay, and other committed officials and staff of the District Transport Office, joined by representatives from the district administration and police. Together, they turned a routine election day into a rallying call for safer roads and brighter futures.
