GOLAGHAT: The fourth day of the ongoing eviction drive in Assam’s Rengma Reserve Forest marked a significant milestone, as authorities extended operations into several newly identified encroachment zones.

Spearheaded by the Assam Forest Department in close coordination with the Golaghat District Administration and police, the operation successfully cleared unauthorized settlements in areas including 2 & 3 No. Doyalpur, 3 No. Dolonipathar, Kherbari, 2 No. Madhupur, and Bidyapur.

The eviction drive proceeded smoothly and without resistance, highlighting the administration’s commitment to a lawful, humane, and well-coordinated approach. Strict adherence to legal protocols and safety measures was maintained throughout the operation.

Senior state officials, including Special Chief Secretary M.K. Yadava, Inspector General of Police Akhilesh Kr Singh, Golaghat District Commissioner Pulak Mahanta, and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Golaghat, were present on-site to supervise the activities. Their presence underscored the government’s determination to restore ecological balance in one of Assam’s vital forest reserves.

During a media briefing, Special Chief Secretary M.K. Yadava reported that approximately 400 hectares of encroached forest land were cleared on Saturday alone. He emphasized the government’s commitment to carrying out the operation responsibly, particularly given the region’s proximity to inter-state boundaries.

District Commissioner Pulak Mahanta revealed that the total area reclaimed over the past four days now exceeds 8,000 bighas. He commended the coordination among departments and the cooperation from all involved agencies, which contributed to the peaceful and effective execution of the drive.

To maintain law and order, a robust security presence—including CRPF and state police forces—was deployed. Senior officials remained at the site throughout the day to oversee the proceedings in real time.
