SILCHAR: In a shocking incident, the decomposed body of an 18-year-old youth student was recovered under mysterious circumstances from near the Barak River in Katigorah, Silchar, on Tuesday.

The youth has been identified as Purna Chandra Barman, a student of Gurucharan College. Hailing from Ujangram, Purna lived in a rented house in Silchar with his sister.

According to the information gathered from Purna's family members, he left the house alone around 11 PM on December 31 and has been missing since. When he failed to return home, his family lodged a missing complaint with the police on January 1. Despite a police investigation, there was no trace of him until his body was found yesterday.

Upon recovering the body, police also found a mobile phone and headphones near the site, though the phone's SIM card was missing. Suspicion has arisen that Purna may have been murdered and his body was dumped on the riverbank. The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, and the police have launched an investigation to uncover the truth behind the tragic death.

Meanwhile, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police conducted raids at two locations in Guwahati on Tuesday, recovering a substantial quantity of heroin and arresting two alleged traffickers.
