DIMA HASAO: Rescue efforts to save miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Assam's Dima Hasao district continued on Wednesday, marking the third day of operations.

Multiple teams, including personnel from the Navy, Army, NDRF, and SDRF, have intensified their search. While rescue teams persist in their efforts, one body has been recovered till now.

Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha has denied media reports suggesting that three of the trapped miners were feared dead.

The incident took place on Monday when a sudden rush of water flooded the coal mine in the 3 Kilo area of Umrangso, where several workers were trapped inside. While some sources claim there were 15 laborers in the mine at the time, officials have not yet confirmed the exact number.

Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy has informed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that a team from Coal India will join the rescue operation on Wednesday. Moreover, Navy divers have been brought in to assist in the efforts to save the trapped laborers. According to a PTI report, the water level inside the quarry has risen to nearly 100 feet, complicating the operation.

Divers have reached the surface of the flooded quarry but have only found a few shoes and sandals, with no sign of the trapped miners, according to reports.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma suggested that the laborers might have moved deeper into the tunnels inside the quarry. Special Director General of Police Harmeet Singh remarked that specialized divers from the Navy, Army, NDRF, and SDRF are taking turns entering the quarry, but no individuals have been located so far.
