BARPETA: A disastrous fire broke out during the early hours of November 26 in Shila Bazar in Assam's Barpeta. The fire destroyed 15 shops and caused substantial financial losses, estimated at several lakh rupees. According to the local residents, the fire, which is believed to have been caused by a short circuit, reportedly broke out at around 1 AM.
The fire spread swiftly through the marketplace, destroying shops and leaving little time for the shop owners to save their goods. According to the witnesses, the scene was too chaotic as the flames engulfed the areas and the residents were running to save themselves.
After almost two hours after the fire broke out, emergency services reached the venue. Teams from Tarabari Police Station and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) put in their tireless effort to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Despite their tireless effort, the fire resulted in extensive destruction and a devastating aftermath for the shop owners and local communities. The higher authorities are investigating the matter to find out the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.
Earlier this month, a major fire erupted at a rubber factory in the Bakrashal area of Sribhumi District in Assam. The blaze ignited during the crucial rubber treatment procedures causing major damages to the site and its supplies. Due to the fire break, it is estimated that the losses could reach up to Rs. 10 lakh.
Rapid actions by the local fire departments aided in controlling the fire and stopped it from spreading to the neighbouring buildings. Nevertheless, the extreme heat and rapid transmission of the fire led to the complete destruction of the factory and its assets.
The authorities are investigating to know the exact cause of this massive inferno. Fire protection specialists will be examining the factory’s compliance with safety protocols to identify any likely lapses that might have played a role in the outbreak of the fire.
