BOKAKHAT: The floodwaters of the Kaliyani River have caused severe devastation in Numaligarh. Around 2 am last night, while residents were asleep, a sudden surge in the river’s flow submerged several villages, including Kanaighat, Rongbong No. 1 and No. 4, Tongtong Toli, Block Gaon, and Fatasil.

The unexpected flood caught residents off guard, leaving them unable to save their belongings. In Rongbong No. 1, the houses of Krishan Nayak and Chem Nayak were swept away by the strong current. Roads in the area were completely submerged, hindering rescue operations.

Many residents lost livestock to the flood. The bridge near the Numaligarh refinery, built to support heavy vehicles, is now in a precarious condition due to the rising water levels. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and several people are still waiting to be evacuated.
